Calmer winds aid with progress on the fireline
The East Peak Fire is stil at 13,472 acres but is now 70 percent contained. There are 13 handcrews currently assigned to the incident as well as five helicopters, 44 engines, 16 water tenders, and six dozers. In total, there are 628 people assigned to this fire.Near East Peak, the fire remains active and is burning in steep and rocky terrain. Smoke visible today was from the interior of the fire even though as Fire Behavior Analyst Brenda Wilmore said “active fire behavior is rapidly diminishing.” Due to winds from the east, today La Veta had smoke in the in the air. This evening, fire managers directed night crews to remain diligent at keeping lines secure.
As of 9:00 a.m. today, June 26th, Huerfano County went into Stage II Fire Restrictions.
